Kayak fishing has become very popular over the years, so whether you are a beginner or an experienced angler, there is a perfect fishing kayak out there.

If you are in a hurry, here’s a peek at the top picks:

Best Cheap Fishing Kayaks

In the reviews below, you will find our selections of the best affordable fishing kayaks on the market.

Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 Fishing Kayak

  • Front and rear t-handles for easy transport. Deep hull tracking channels
  • Stability chine rails. Durable high-density Polyethylene (HDPE) construction

If you need to scratch that kayak fishing itch, the Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 is an excellent option for an affordable fishing kayak. This kayak has all the features you need to get started, including a built-in rod holder and storage compartments.

The Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 is a great kayak for beginner anglers or those on a budget. It has excellent features built-in and is comfortable and easy to maneuver.

Speaking of comfort, when you spend many hours on a kayak, it is vital to make sure you are comfortable. The Tamarack Angler has a comfortable seat with an adjustable backrest. You can lean back in the seat when you want to relax while fishing or bring the seat back forward when it’s time to paddle.

The adjustable footrest positions allow for different sizes of paddlers. They are also great for folks who want to stretch out their legs. With the adjustable footrest positions, you can maximize your comfort level.

Overall the cockpit seating area is open and comfy. There is even room to bring Fido along if you want to.

While this kayak is easy to maneuver, it has enough width and weight capacity to hold you and your gear. The Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 weighs 56.5 lb, making it light enough for one person to carry.

If you are a smaller person, it might be tough to toss this kayak onto a roof rack, so keep that in mind.

It also has a maximum weight capacity of 275 lbs. You might need to choose a more robust kayak for larger paddlers, but this is a great entry-level option for smaller kayak anglers.

If you need a more robust kayak, the Perception Outlaw is a great option.

The front bungee area is excellent for storing tackle boxes and other gear. The bungees are fantastic because it’s easy to strap down your gear, so it’s nice and secure. This is an excellent spot for a dry bag with your essentials.

The Tamarack Angler comes with two 6″ storage compartments perfect for organizing your smaller items, like lures and tackle. One hatch is located between your legs just in front of the seat, which is great for items you need easy access.

The rear storage area also has a 6″ hatch for items you don’t need to use as often. In addition, there is plenty of rear storage with a bungee shock cord, which is handy for a kayak fishing crate or cooler.

The rear compartment has enough room for your personal items. It’s also great to take a lunch break or picnic while on the water.

The kayak has four carry handles (one on each side and one on the front and back), making it easy to transport.

This budget-friendly fishing kayak has two flush mount rod holders behind the seat and one top mount rod holder on the vessel’s right side. But, of course, you can never have too many fishing rod holders.

Finally, self-draining scupper holes will help remove water that makes its way onboard.

The Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 is an excellent kayak for budget-minded anglers who want to start kayak fishing.

The kayak has a flat bottom hull and a sharp bow design for improved stability. This hull shape stabilizes the kayak, and the bow cuts through rough or choppy conditions. In addition, the tracking skeg on the rear of the kayak helps you stay on course when paddling.

This is a smaller, lightweight fishing kayak that is great for beginners or folks on a budget. However, given its lightweight nature, it might not be the best cheap fishing kayak for everyone.

The Tamarack Angler 100 is an excellent option for calm days on calm water. You will get tossed around in this kayak when the wind and waves pick up. However, the kayak is easy to paddle in good conditions.

If you are looking for the best cheap fishing kayak you can get your hands on, the Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 is a fantastic value. It will get you out on the water without breaking the bank.

What’s missing?

The kayak lacks a few things you will find on higher-end fishing kayaks, including gear tracks, but that is not a deal-breaker at this price point.

PROS

Lightweight and easy to transport
Spacious enough for one person (and maybe your pup)
Comes with fishing rod holders
Handles well and is easy to maneuver

CONS

It might not be large enough for some people
Handles okay on choppy water, but there are better options
No gear tracks or extra accessories

The Pelican Sentinel 100X is another fantastic budget fishing kayak. It is a sit-on-top kayak which makes loading the kayak easy, plus you can easily get in and out.

Comfort is a top priority when you spend a long time in a kayak, and the Sentinel 100X delivers. The seat is very comfortable (by kayak seat standards) and is easy on your sit bones.

The adjustable backrest gives you excellent support and puts you squarely in control of your comfort. You can loosen the backrest to chill and recline while waiting for the fish to bite or sit up straight when it’s time to paddle to your next fishing hole.

When you sit for hours and hours, it’s essential to have a comfy kayak seat. Unfortunately, many fishing kayaks overlook this, so it’s nice that Pelican went the extra mile with a comfy, supportive seat.

The open cockpit design has fully adjustable footrests for different paddlers. You can also stretch out your legs when you tire of sitting in the same position for hours.

The cockpit also has a unique feature that sets this fishing kayak apart, a center console. The console has two drink holders, and you can store items you need quick access to, like fishing lures and your phone (for all the photo ops).

Overall, the cockpit is spacious, organized, and well equipped to handle your day on the water. There might be enough room to take your pup with you, depending on the size of your dog, of course.

The Sentinel 100X is a shorter kayak at just under ten feet, making it easier to maneuver than longer fishing kayaks. Unfortunately, that also means there isn’t as much storage and elbow room as larger kayaks.

It’s also very lightweight at just over 40 pounds, making it great for hauling around and putting on top of your vehicle by yourself. The max carrying capacity is 275 pounds, a little lighter.

Pelican’s manufacturing process includes extra flotation inside the hull, making the kayak lightweight while maintaining buoyancy.

If you are a larger kayak angler, you might look at other models like the Perception Outlaw or the Perception Sound.

The kayak is excellent for calm days and calm water. The downside is that the smaller design and lightweight nature means you can get pushed around in windy and wavy conditions.

The Sentinel 100X has a multichine flat bottom hull design, making the kayak stable when casting and reeling in fish. The kayak paddles easily and is nimble, so you can sneak up on unsuspecting fish.

Like any good fishing kayak, the Pelican Sentinel 100X has two flush-mount rod holders behind the seat. Unfortunately, there are no top mount rod holders, but you can add these if you are comfortable drilling into the kayak.

The Sentinel 100X has a good amount of storage space for a cheap fishing kayak. In addition, the front storage area has a mesh cover so your gear will stay nice and secure when you hit the water.

This kayak also has a removable rear storage compartment that will fit all your gear, plus a bungee cord system to keep everything in place. The Sentinel 100X also has a paddle holder to keep your hands free when reeling in that big one.

Carry handles on the front and rear make it easy to carry the kayak alone or with a partner.

What’s missing?

For starters, there are no gear tracks often found on fishing kayaks. That is not a deal-breaker at this price, but it would be a nice addition.

When it comes to cheap fishing kayaks, the Pelican Sentinel 100X offers many great features. It’s easy to maneuver, stable and has all the standard fishing kayak amenities you would expect at this price.

If you are looking for an affordable fishing kayak that is light enough to handle by yourself yet durable enough to last a long time, this might be the one for you.

PROS

Lightweight to put on a small car by yourself
Spacious cockpit area
Comfortable seat with adjustable backrest
Two flush mount rod holders
Easy to paddle and maneuver

CONS

No gear tracks
The shorter length might be a con for some kayakers
Not great for rough waters

Perception Pescador Pro 10 Sit on Top Fishing Kayak

  • Angler-Friendly Design: With its spacious storage and comfortable seating, this kayak...
  • Adventure Ready: Whether you're fishing in lakes, slow-moving rivers, or calm coastal...

Another fantastic budget kayak is the Perception Pescador Pro. This kayak is a sit-on-top design, giving freedom of movement for casting and reeling in big fish.

The Perception Pescador Pro comes with features you would expect in a high-end fishing kayak at a much friendlier price.

The seat is one feature that sets this kayak apart from many other fishing kayaks in this price range. The seat is a lawn chair style with 2 levels, so you can sit up a bit higher for better vision when paddling and casting.

The seat is comfortable and supportive for long days on the water. It also has a breathable mesh material to keep you cool even when it’s hot outside. The seat can make you feel a little top-heavy on the highest setting, but you will get used to it.

View at Amazon

A good seat is imperative when you spend much time in a fishing kayak, and the Pescador Pro delivers on this.

The cockpit is open and has adjustable footrest settings which are great for different sizes of anglers. You can also adjust the footrest to stretch your legs after sitting for hours.

In addition, there is a fish finder console which is a considerable step up from the cheaper fishing kayaks on this list.

Now we can get to the good stuff, accessory rails. The Pescador Pro has plenty of accessory rails to mount all your favorite gear, including rod holders, an action camera, GPS, or whatever you deem necessary to catch more fish.

The kayak also comes with two flush-mount rod holders behind the seat, but be warned, these are pretty shallow and not super great, which is a bummer.

The Pescador Pro has a front storage area with a mesh cover for storage. This is an excellent place for a dry bag or other gear.

The kayak also has a generous rear storage area with bungee cords to hold fishing, creating, or cooler. For a cheap fishing kayak, this guy has a lot of storage space for all your gear.

Carry handles on the front and rear make toting your kayak to and from the water easier. These handles are also great for anchor points to the front and back of your vehicle if you are car topping the Pescador Pro.

The Pescador Pro is made from durable high-density polyethylene, can take a beating, and provides UV protection.

It weighs 57 pounds and has a max carrying capacity of 325 pounds. The weight limit is significantly different from lighter-weight models like the Pelican Sentinel.

Even though the kayak weighs 57 pounds, it’s still considered lightweight by fishing kayak standards. The kayak will still get pushed around in the wind and in choppy conditions. Longer, heavier kayaks handle wind and chop better.

At 57 pounds, this kayak is more challenging to put on the top of a taller vehicle like an SUV or pickup, so keep that in mind.

You are starting to get into the realm of standing up and fishing with the Pescador Pro, but it’s not explicitly designed for standing. Give it a go if you trust your balance, but remember, you might get wet.

The hull design on the Perception Pescador Pro ensures stability when casting and reeling in your catch. And like the Pelican Sentinel 100X, it has a paddle holder and lots of storage.

What’s missing?

The Perception Pescador Pro is a great budget kayak but has a few downsides. There are no top mount rod holders, and it is still lightweight, making it less stable in rough waters.

Overall, the Perception Pescador Pro is an excellent choice for budget-minded kayak anglers who want a quality fishing kayak with many features.

The Pescador Pro checks many boxes for an inexpensive fishing kayak and is worth a look. You get more kayak fishing features built-in with this model, which is a good value at this price.

PROS

Stable design for casting and reeling in fish
Great for lakes and slow-moving rivers
Comfortable 2-level seat with adjustable backrest
Gear tracks for adding accessories
Lots of storage space

CONS

More expensive than other options listed here
Not stable enough to stand up and fish

If an inflatable kayak floats your boat, the Intex Excursion Pro is an excellent option for a budget-friendly fishing kayak. Inflatable fishing kayaks are great for many people, and I will briefly explain that here.

Intex is well known for its inflatable pool and lake toys, but they also make some cool stuff for the outdoors. The Intex Excursion Pro is one of those products.

At first glance, this kayak looks very similar to other inflatables on the market, but a couple of crucial features set it apart.

The Intex Excursion Pro is a two-person inflatable kayak that can be paddled solo. The interior is spacious, with plenty of room for two paddlers and gear. You can also paddle solo since the kayak is easy to paddle alone.

Many people enjoy taking their dogs with them when they go kayak fishing. The Intex Excursion Pro is dog-friendly as well.

The inflatable seats lack the rigidity and support that many other kayak seats offer in a hardshell kayak, but these seats are pretty comfy overall.

One hack I like to mention is that if you don’t inflate the seat bottom, you sit lower in the boat and get better back support from the seatback this way.

The seatbacks are adjustable to find the sweet spot while paddling or fishing.

The kayak is made from durable, laminated PVC, which will withstand all sorts of abuse. The material is also lightweight making it easy to transport.

The adjustable footrests are another excellent feature you won’t find on many run-of-the-mill inflatable kayaks. Adjustable footrests are great because you can get the power you need to paddle, and they are great for different sizes of people.

You will also love the accessory mounting bracket, so you can add your fishing toys just like you can with gear tracks on rigid kayaks.

Integrated fishing rod holders round out the cool features of this affordable inflatable fishing kayaking.

The Excursion Pro has a removable skeg that improves tracking when you paddle. The skeg is not an option on all other inflatable kayaks, and it really helps keep your kayak going straight where you are paddling.

Paddling an inflatable without a skeg is kind of fruitless. However, the skeg makes a HUGE difference in your paddling efficiency.

The Excursion Pro comes with everything you need to hit the water immediately. Two aluminum oars come standard with the Intex Excursion Pro, a pump, a repair kit, and a carry bag.

The kayak has a 400-pound capacity which is a big plus, and it only weighs about 44 pounds which is more than your average inflatable. It’s easy to pack with you and has a good amount of carrying capacity.

Remember, the Intex Excursion Pro is an inflatable kayak, so it won’t perform as well as a hard fishing kayak in high wind or choppy conditions. Generally speaking, a hardshell fishing kayak will handle those conditions better.

For the average weekend warrior kayak angler, the Intex Excursion Pro will work great in most situations. However, it’s best suited for lakes and slow-moving water.

One thing that makes this kayak great is that you don’t need a roof rack to transport it to and from the water. You can toss the Excursion Pro in your trunk or backseat, away you go. You have a cheap fishing kayak at the ready!

This kayak is also considerably less expensive than other fishing kayaks.

Oh! Almost forgot. Another great thing about an inflatable fishing kayak is you don’t need a dedicated place to store the kayak. You can toss it in your closet or on a shelf in your garage and call it good.

There is more maintenance involved with an inflatable kayak

What’s missing?

The biggest downside to this kayak is that it doesn’t have a lot of storage space, so you’ll need to pack light if you’re going on a longer trip.

Overall, the Intex Excursion Pro is an excellent option for budget-minded anglers looking for an inflatable fishing kayak. It has some great features that set it apart from the competition and is very affordable.

Just be aware that it doesn’t handle high winds, choppy conditions, or a hard shell kayak.

PROS

Affordable and lightweight inflatable fishing kayak
Two-person design is good for paddling solo or with another angler
Removable skeg improves tracking and control
Easy to transport and store when, not in use

CONS

Not much storage space on the kayak
Not as many fishing accessories as other models
More maintenance than a hard kayak

Sevylor Coleman Colorado™ 2-Person Fishing Kayak

Sevylor Colorado 2-Person Inflatable Fishing Kayak with Paddle & Rod Holders, Adjustable Seats, & Carry Handle; Kayak Can Fit Trolling Motor

  • 1000D tarpaulin bottom and 840D nylon cover provide durable protection from punctures
  • Multiple air chambers allow another chamber to stay inflated if one is punctured
  • International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from...

Inflatable fishing kayaks have become a lot more popular in recent years. The Coleman Colorado is one of the best options for anglers looking into inflatable kayak fishing.

The Sevylor Coleman Colorado kayak has many great features that you’ll find on other, more expensive models, such as rod holders and a removable skeg.

The Coleman Colorado 2-person kayak comes with adjustable seats, a nice feature for long days on the water. The backrests can recline to relax or pull the seatback forward when paddling.

Storage space is a premium on kayaks. The Colorado seats have water bottle holders and pockets on the back for extra storage. Nice touch!

The kayak is designed for two people and fishing gear, and there is a decent amount of legroom for everyone. Depending on your height, it may be a little tight, but you should be fine as long as your legs aren’t too long.

There are mesh pockets built into the side tubes of the kayak, nice for keeping lures and other stuff easily accessible. There are also tons of tie-down anchor points on the tubes, so you can strap your gear down nice and tight.

The kayak is made from 18 gauge PVC material with a Tarpaulin bottom for increased durability. In addition, the seams are welded to prevent leaks which is one of the more prominent drawbacks to inflatable kayaks.

The kayak is built with multiple air chambers to help prevent leaking, so if something goes wrong with one, you aren’t entirely out of luck.

The Colorado fishing kayak weighs about 37 pounds, so it’s manageable even if paddling solo. It features a robust carrying capacity as well.

The Coleman Colorado fishing kayak has no footrests like the Excursion Pro, but that is not a deal-breaker. You still have plenty of room to stretch your legs when sitting for hours.

Fishing accessories set the Coleman Colorado apart from other inflatables and other cheap fishing kayaks.

The Colorado has one of the best accessory packages for any fishing kayak. It comes with two universal rod holders on the back of the kayak and four mounts that you can use with a Berkley or Scotty rod holder.

On either side of the kayak, you will find paddle holders, which are a great addition to any kayak. Paddle holders are fantastic when you have a fish on or just need a place for your paddle if you need a break.

The Coleman Colorado is very stable, which is extremely handy when casting or reeling in a big fish. The Colorado has multiple air chambers that provide extra stability and make getting in and out of the kayak easier. The side tubes are wide, making for a pretty stable ride, but don’t expect to stand up in this thing.

The removable skeg on the Colorado is a great feature for improving tracking and keeping you going straight when paddling. The kayak will tend to veer off course without it since there isn’t much hull to keep it straight.

The skeg can be removed if you paddle in shallow water or rivers and don’t need it, which is a nice feature. Paddling an inflatable kayak without a skeg can be a fruitless adventure.

The Colorado has another trick up its sleeve, with trolling motor fittings. You can take your kayak fishing to the next level by adding a small trolling motor.

Carry handles on the front, rear, and sides make transporting to and from your launch point easy.

What’s missing?

The kayak doesn’t come with a pump or a paddle. You are on your own when it comes to these accessories. Also, no gear tracks, but you don’t expect that on an inflatable kayak in this price range.

This kayak is perfect for anglers just starting kayak fishing, as it’s easy to transport and set up. The Coleman Colorado is also one of the cheaper fishing kayaks on the market.

Overall, the Coleman Colorado is an excellent option for budget-minded anglers looking for an inflatable fishing kayak. It has many great features that set it apart from the competition and is very affordable.

PROS

Easy to transport and store
Built-in rod holders and mounts
Adjustable seats
Lots of tie-down points
Very spacious and has lots of room for gear

CONS

No pump or paddle included
As with any inflatable, it could puncture
The rod holders can get in the way of paddling

  • Includes (2) 4-part paddles with asymmetrical blades with an aluminum shaft, 2 skegs...

Here’s more proof that inflatable kayaks are very popular for kayak fishing. The Sea Eagle 370 kayak is a beast with its carrying capacity and roominess.

This is an excellent option for the casual angler who doesn’t want to spend much money.

For starters, this kayak will hold up to three people, or you can take all the space for yourself and bring a ton of gear. It also has an impressive weight capacity of 650 pounds, so it’s perfect for larger anglers or those who like to pack a lot of gear.

The inflatable seats are comfortable and adjustable, which is great for a kayak used by multiple people. One trick with the seats that helps with upper back support is not to inflate the seat bottom. This will keep you sitting lower in the kayak, which will help the backrest to sit higher, giving you more support.

The kayak is roomy enough for three paddlers, but two people can easily paddle, fish, and take a lot of gear. Of course, you can also paddle solo if you want (and bring your puppy).

The Sea Eagle 370 has a very roomy interior, so you can pack a lot of gear for your fishing trip. Unfortunately, the interior lacks foot braces like the Intex Excursion Pro, but that is not critical.

The kayak doesn’t come with rod holders, but Sea Eagle sells a multi-purpose storage box that comes with rod holders. This is an excellent option if you are looking for more storage.

For a three-person kayak, this thing is incredibly light. It has a robust weight limit that can support 650 pounds and only weighs about 30 pounds when packed in the included carry bag.

This makes it easy for two people to transport to and from the water. You can even pop it in a car trunk if you want to drive your kayak closer to a good fishing spot.

The Sea Eagle 370 has impressive storage space for an inflatable kayak. You can pack a lot of gear in the kayak. The downside is there is no watertight storage.

The storage consists of a small covered area on the front and back of the kayak. Sure, there is a lot of room for gear, but the storage space on the kayak is best used with dry bags to keep your gear safe and dry.

The Sea Eagle 370 is made with heavy-duty PVC construction that can withstand a lot of wear and tear. The SE 370 is rated for up to Class III whitewater, so you know it has to be durable.

The kayak is also designed with multiple air chambers (I-beam construction), so you won’t have to swim back to shore if one pops.

If you want to take your four-legged friend fishing with you, the kayak is durable enough to stand up to claws as well.

Speaking of tough, some people might be skeptical about fishing from an inflatable kayak, but the SE 370 is designed with a tough, durable material built to stand up to the rigors of kayak fishing.

The kayak doesn’t come with any fishing accessories, but that isn’t a deal-breaker. You can buy rod holders, tackle boxes, and other fishing gear to customize the kayak. In addition, a fishing crate or 5-gallon bucket works well to keep all your fishing gear handy.

Inflatable kayaks are generally pretty wide and have a stable hull. Therefore, they are very stable, which is critical for casting and reeling fish. Stable kayaks are also great for those who are new to kayak fishing.

You cannot stand up and cast with the Sea Eagle 370, but it has tremendous stability in rough water and for kayak fishing.

With two skegs built into the kayak, it tracks remarkably well.

The kayak comes with a pump, two paddles, a repair kit, and a carry bag. So it’s got everything you need to hit the water (minus fishing gear).

What’s missing?

The obvious stuff that’s missing is all the fishing gear and accessories. However, you can find many other kayaks with more bells and whistles.

What the SE 370 offers is convenience, and it’s great for traveling in an RV, fishing with a buddy, kids, or grandkids.

If you are looking for a cheap kayak for casual fishing, the Sea Eagle 370 is worth a peek.

PROS

Lightweight and easy to transport
Comes with everything you need to hit the water
Durable
Spacious for people and gear
Easy to setup

The Pelican Basscreek 100xp Angler is a great option for inexpensive fishing kayaks. The kayak comes with many great features that kayak anglers will appreciate.

This kayak is great for beginners or anyone who wants a solid kayak on a budget. There are excellent built-in features so you can enjoy your kayak fishing excursion.

It’s essential to be comfy when you are kayak fishing. You can sit for hours on end, searching for those elusive fishies. The Basscreek fishing kayak delivers and comes with a cushy ERGOFIT G2 seat with an adjustable backrest.

When you need to take a break and relax, you can loosen the seat and lean back. Then, when it’s time to paddle, you can tighten the seat straps to the ready position.

The cockpit is very roomy, with plenty of legroom, so you can move around without feeling cramped. You don’t have to feel like a sardine when trying to reel in that big one.

The adjustable footrests are an excellent addition to this fishing kayak. Different-sized anglers can adjust the footrest as needed if they use the kayak. Or if you just need to stretch your legs after a long time sitting, you can do that too.

A comfortable seat and ample legroom go a long way to an enjoyable day of kayak fishing.

The cockpit area also has a built-in swivel fishing rod holder (between your feet), so it’s easily accessible when you need to put down your fishing pole. Scupper holes and a water bottle holder round out the impressive interior.

The kayak weighs about 50 pounds and has a weight capacity of 325 pounds, suitable for most anglers and gear.

At 10 feet long and weighing 50 pounds, the kayak is relatively easy to handle by yourself but might be a challenge to put on a roof rack. Front and rear carry handles are great for toting to the water and handy for strapping the kayak down on a roof rack.

The Basscreek 100xp Angler has plenty of storage for all your fishing gear. With a bow hatch and stern tank well, you can store anything for a successful day on the water.

The kayak also has bungee cords on the rear to secure any items that might slide around. The rear storage is an excellent spot for a fishing crate or cooler.

The bow hatch is great for smaller items you don’t need immediate access to. However, please wrap your valuables as the hatch is not guaranteed to be watertight.

A small 4″ hatch is located directly behind the seat, so fit what you can in there.

The kayak is made from Pelicans proprietary RAMX material for durability. Pelican uses less material, so the kayak is lighter yet stiffer and stronger. As a result, the kayak can withstand some bumps and scrapes without denting or breaking.

The kayak is meant for flat water, so it’s not intended to be used in the surf. However, you can use this kayak on rivers and lakes with a slight chop and mild rapids. Just keep away from white water.

One of the most attractive features of the Basscreek 100xp Fishing Kayak is the built-in fishing rod holders.

You get one on each side, behind the seat, so you can have two rods in the water simultaneously (check local regulations). Or you can have one rod in the water and another rigged up and ready to go.

The previously mentioned top-mounted rod holder upfront is another excellent addition. This fishing kayak is not lacking in that department.

One thing the Basscreek doesn’t have is gear tracks, so you can customize and add more of your own accessories. It’s a bummer but not critical because of the included rod holders.

The multichine flat bottom hull makes this kayak very stable for casting and reeling in fish. You don’t have to worry about tipping over, even when fighting a big one.

The kayak tracks well and is easy to paddle and maneuver so that you can get to those hard-to-reach spots on the river or lake.

What’s missing?

Mainly gear tracks are the biggest miss on this kayak. It seems like an easy ad that would set this kayak apart from others in this price range.

The Basscreek 100xp Angler Fishing Kayak is a great option for budget-minded anglers. It has all the features you need for a successful day on the water without breaking the bank. This kayak comes with an adjustable seat, plenty of storage, and built-in fishing rod holders.

The Pelican Basscreek 100xp Angler Fishing Kayak is an excellent choice for entry-level anglers or those looking to save some cash.

PROS

Fishing rod holders!
Ample rear storage with bungees
Lots of legroom
Comfy seat with an adjustable back

CONS

No accessory rails
No good spot to install a fish finder

The Perception Outlaw 11.5 is one of the best budget fishing kayaks on the market, offering plenty of comforts and storage for those long days on the water. In addition, the kayak is designed to fit different-sized people from small to extra large.

This kayak comes with many great fishing features standard and is excellent for more seasoned anglers or those with a little larger budget.

A comfortable seat is critical to a good day of fishing. The Outlaw delivers with a comfy mesh seat. The seat is built to fit a wide range of people. In addition, the seat is raised 5 inches off the deck to give you improved vision on the water.

The extra space under the seat is perfect for storing smaller items, so you have more room to stand up, cast your line, and reel in fish. Or you can cast and reel while seated comfortably in your seat with plenty of back support.

The seat frame is foldable and removable, which is very convenient for transport.

There is plenty to like with the deck/interior of this kayak. First, a large open deck gives you plenty of legroom to stretch out when needed.

The Outlaw is designed for you to stand up and fish. The kayak has traction pads instead of adjustable footrests like so many other fishing kayaks.

The traction pads not only help prevent you from slipping when you are standing but also deaden the sound of you stomping around on the kayak. One more way to sneak up on those fishies!

Side trays and cup holders on each side of the seat are a great addition. These are handy for lures and other stuff you need close by. Just make sure you don’t set your phone there, or it might end up at the bottom of the lake.

The Perception Outlaw is a beast compared to other fishing kayaks on this list. It is 11’6″ long and weighs a whopping 77 pounds, so it’s way more challenging to handle getting to and from the water.

A kayak this size is hard to car top, too. Lifting this overhead is not easy, and a kayak trailer is your best bet to transport this monster fishing kayak.

A good, heavy-duty kayak cart will also be your best friend launching this kayak.

The Outlaw has a max weight capacity of 425 pounds which is great for heavier paddlers and lots of gear. There is plenty of room for your pup too.

One thing the Perception Outlaw doesn’t not lack is storage space. The Outlaw has tons of space for all your fishing gear. The bow storage has a mesh cover with bungees, perfect for stowing your tackle box, dry bags, or other small items.

A large rear tank well is great for storing a cooler, or kayak crate. In addition, there is space below the seat for storing smaller items like your cell phone, keys, wallet, and other valuables.

The Outlaw checks that box if you are looking for a budget fishing kayak with lots of storage.

The Perception Outlaw is constructed of polyethylene plastic which makes it very durable. Polyethylene has become the standard in kayak construction due to its ability to withstand significant use.

The Outlaw has plenty of legroom, as mentioned before. Therefore, you will have no problem casting and reeling fish while seated (or standing) in the kayak.

The Outlaw comes standard with all the fishing features you need to make your day on the water successful with an excellent fishing kayak.

“Double Barrel” rod holders on either side behind the seat and side handles that double as gear tracks (pretty innovative, honestly). You shouldn’t lack any place for your fishing gear, rods, etc.

The Outlaw is also very stable due to its width and keel design, allowing you to stand up and fish without tipping over.

A good fishing kayak must track well, and the Outlaw tracks don’t disappoint, even when paddling with a heavy load. In addition, the kayak moves through the water efficiently due to its width and length.

With some lighter, smaller fishing kayaks, you have to worry about being pushed around by wind and choppy water. However, due to the girth of this kayak, that is not as much of an issue.

What’s missing?

Honestly, there isn’t much missing from this fishing kayak. It would be nice to see some dedicated accessory rails, but the integrated handles work well for that too.

The Perception Outlaw is a great fishing kayak for anyone looking for an affordable option with plenty of features. This kayak has something for everyone, from the deck that gives you plenty of legroom to the storage space for all your gear. In addition, the construction and durability of the kayak make it a great choice for those who plan on using their kayak a lot.

The price is higher than some of the other inexpensive fishing kayaks on this list, but you are getting what you pay for with the Outlaw. It’s built to last and has all the features any angler would need. So if you’re looking for an affordable fishing kayak that comes standard with everything you need, the Perception Outlaw is a great choice.

PROS

The kayak is fishing ready
Lots of storage space for fishing gear
Stable enough to stand on
Elevated seat for better vision

CONS

Very heavy to car top
Not as nimble as some other kayaks

Finally, a sit-inside fishing kayak for those who are on a budget. The Perception Sound is a mid-range sit-inside kayak with great features for fishing and recreational use. Honestly, this is a great fishing kayak for the casual angler.

If you spend any time in a kayak, you know that comfort is a priority. The seat on the Sound is pretty damn comfortable for a cheap fishing kayak, even for larger paddlers.

The backrest is adjustable, and the seat bottom has a lot of cushion, making it an excellent choice for those long days on the water.

The Sound has a large cockpit that makes getting in and out easy. Not as easy as a sit-on-top kayak, but still easy enough by sit-inside standards.

There is plenty of legroom for taller paddlers as well. Adjustable footrests are great for many reasons. You can adjust the kayak for different people and stretch out your legs when you tire of sitting in the same position for hours.

The nice thing about this fishing kayak is the padded thigh braces, which are a must if you have spent any time in a sit-inside kayak.

The Perception Sound also has a dashboard just in front of your legs for items you need to reach while paddling. This can be very convenient when you need to get something quickly, and it’s nice not having to dig through your kayak bags looking for items.

You can use this space for your phone (photo ops), lures, GPS, or whatever else you need at the ready.

The Sound is a lightweight fishing kayak by hard kayak standards. This kayak is easy to tote around since it only weighs 46 pounds. It’s not too tough to car top, but I guess that depends on how much you can lift.

The kayak is 10.5 feet long and has a max carrying capacity of 335 pounds. If you want a fishing kayak with a higher weight capacity, this is a solid alternative to the Lifetime Tamarack or the Pelican Sentinel.

One thing the Sound lacks is storage. The kaya has a rear storage area with bungees, great for a kayak crate, cooler, or other gear. Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, there is no front storage beside the dashboard. So if you are looking for a lot of storage space, the Outlaw might be a better option.

The Sound is made from high-density polyethylene, making it resistant to impact and abrasions. If you take care of the kayak, it will last for years.

The kayak is also UV-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about the sun damaging your kayak.

The Sound comes with adjustable footrests that make tall and short paddlers comfortable. The cockpit is wide enough to not feel restricted but small enough to keep you a little warmer on colder days.

An affordable fishing kayak should come with some built-in fishing accessories. The Sound is limited in this area but has a few things to improve your fishing experience.

There are two flush-mounted rod holders on either side located behind the seat. These are great when you need to paddle and have a spot to place your fishing rod. The dashboard also has molded recess specifically for the Solo Mounts that Perception sells. As a result, you can mount different accessories onto your kayak without drilling holes. These Solo Mounts replace accessory rails, which the Sound does not have. So, you don’t have to miss out on mounting additional accessories.

The Sound is a stable kayak and tracks well, which is essential when kayak fishing. You want to feel secure when you cast and lean over to land a fish.

You can’t stand up in this kayak, but for recreational paddling and the casual kayak angler, the kayak handles well, is easy to paddle, and is very stable.

What’s missing?

For the budget-minded angler, this kayak has some good features. However, it lacks storage space and side-mounted accessory tracks. The kayak makes up for this with Solo mounts. It’s not a traditional fishing kayak, but it’s great for the average casual angler who also wants an excellent recreational boat.

The Perception Sound kayak is a great option for the budget-minded angler. It’s comfortable, lightweight, and tracks well. The major downside is the lack of storage. This fishing kayak is perfect for those just getting into kayak fishing or those who want a lightweight kayak they can take on a weekend fishing trip.

PROS

Lightweight and can be used for fishing or recreational paddling
Good size rear storage area
The dashboard that can be customized
Easy to load and unload
Tracks well and is very stable

CONS

Lacks some storage
No accessory tracks
Not as easy to get in out of as a sit on top kayak

Conclusion

Those were our selections for the best budget fishing kayaks. Of course, many affordable fishing kayaks are on the market, but we chose these because they had the features that matter most for anglers and represented good value for their price points.

If you want to get into kayak fishing without breaking your budget, any of these would be a great choice. They have everything you need to get started, and you can always upgrade as your fishing needs change.

Good luck on the water!
